    Additive Manufacturing Round Table
3D Printing has been around for 30 years but has been primarily focused on prototyping. The prototyping market isn't going away but our discussion will center on Additive Manufacturing (AM) because advances in 3D Printing technologies are now approaching the point where 3D printing is rapidly becoming a viable solution for manufacturing. Over the past few years, more companies are adopting AM technologies for a variety of uses including tooling, fixtures, medical implants and end use parts.

We will discuss what applications AM works well, including specifically where AM can benefit companies over traditional manufacturing processes, and where there are still many challenges. We will also look at what considerations come into play in designing/redesigning parts and manufacturing processes to take full advantage of the AM technology. We will discuss industries and specific applications already using AM, as well as the costs of implementing AM 3D printing solutions - including primary and ancillary equipment, training, software and more. Finally, we'll take a look at the future of AM and what you should expect going forward.
These Roundtables are offered to facilitate discussion and determine specific focus areas of interest manufacturing members would like more support from BAMA; to provide a forum to discuss and share best practices within manufacturing members; to provide a forum to learn and provide resources to our membership to improve manufacturing competitiveness.

The Manufacturers Roundtable is another example of BAMA’s ongoing efforts to expand the strength of Tampa Bay’s manufacturing base.

    Congressman Gus M. Bilirakis

    September 21

    5:00 - 5:30: Registration
    5:30 - 6:00: Announcements/ Dinner (Italian Buffet)
6:00: Discussion with Congressman Bilirakis and Q&A

Seven Spring Golf Club, 3535 Trophy Blvd., Trinity

This meeting with Congressman Gus M. Bilirakis will focus on what to expect from Congress and the President, and how that applies to manufacturing.

Congressman Gus M. Bilirakis is a Republican from Palm Harbor, representing Florida's 12th Congressional District, which includes all of Pasco and northern parts of Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. He was first elected to Congress on November 7, 2006, and is currently serving his sixth term in the United States House of Representatives.

Gus serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee and is Vice-Chairman of the Veterans' Affairs Committee. He is Co-Chairman of the Military Veterans Caucus, the Congressional Hellenic Caucus, and the Congressional Hellenic-Israel Alliance. Working in a bipartisan manner, his main priorities include controlling government spending, creating jobs for middle class Americans, finding ways for government to operate smaller and smarter, and lowering taxes. He is also committed to strengthening homeland security, improving education, increasing access to quality health care, protecting veterans' benefits, and ensuring the long-term viability of Social Security and Medicare.

As the only Florida Republican on the Energy and Commerce Committee, Gus continues to be a strong voice for Florida, and his roles on the Health, Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection, and Communications and Technology Subcommittees are highly beneficial for our state. With the fourth largest GDP, Florida is an important and robust economic engine that should carry great consideration when Congress examines ways we can drive this economy forward. Our state also has the greatest proportion of residents 65 years and older, making it even more important for Congress to ensure a quality and affordable healthcare system for current and future generations. Finally, with the highest per capita residential electricity demand, Florida has a vested interest in ensuring our country becomes more energy independent and has reliable access to a broad array of energy sources.

In his role as Vice-Chairman of the Veterans' Affairs Committee and member of the Health Subcommittee, Gus continues to ensure our nation's heroes remain a top priority. In addition, Congressman Bilirakis is fighting to bring additional health care resources to Florida and the 12th Congressional District. Since coming to Congress, he has worked with local and national VA officials to expand the Pasco County VA Outpatient Clinic, bringing additional health care services, such as dental care and mental health services, to area veterans.

Gus is the sole Congressional Representative from Florida on the House Manufacturing Caucus, which examines and promotes policies to help American manufacturers find trained, educated workers, continue to lead the world in developing new industrial technologies, operate on a level playing field with their foreign competitors, and obtain the capital they need to thrive.

Prior to being elected to Congress, Gus served four terms in the Florida House of Representatives (1998-2006), where he chaired several prominent panels, including Crime Prevention, Public Safety Appropriations, and the Economic Development, Trade and Banking Committee. During this time, he also served as Senior Partner at the Bilirakis Law Group in Holiday, Florida, where he specialized in wills, trusts and estate planning.

Gus earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Florida in 1986 and a J.D. from Stetson University in 1989. He interned for President Ronald Reagan and the National Republican Congressional Committee. He also currently teaches government classes at St. Petersburg College.

Gus and his wife, Eva, have four sons - Michael, Teddy, Manuel and Nicholas.

7:00 – 8:00 Breakout Groups to review Training ROI Model for Manufacturing

Tampa Bay is emerging as one of the nation’s hottest industrial markets, which brings both opportunities and challenges. Manufacturing organizations face unique workforce development challenges such as Regulatory Compliance, Workplace Safety, Production Downtime, Knowledge Transfer, New Technology, Cross Training and more. These issues must be addressed in a sustainable way to ensure long term growth and success. A proactive approach to improve the learning maturity of an organization can not only help in areas like Risk Mitigation, Reliability and closing Skills Gaps, but ultimately training can become a mechanism for measurably improving the overall performance of a manufacturing organization.

This event will explore Training Best Practices for Manufacturers, which will help attendees diagnose the learning maturity of their organization at a high level and identify opportunities for performance improvement through training. Attendees will also learn how to use 10 key elements and industry validated benchmarks to forecast and measure training Return On Investment for manufacturing. The ROI assessment helps build a business case for training initiatives and more importantly measures the long term impact of training initiatives specific to manufacturing industries including,
      • Benefit Calculations / Statements for each of the 10 ROI elements
      • Payback Period (in months)
      • Cost of Waiting
      • Investment vs. Return Breakdown by Year
      • Executive Training ROI Summary including Benefits by Value Driver and Type

When UBERIZATION Collides With Your Industry

    Thursday, Nov. 2
    Registration: 5:30-6:00
    Dinner: 6:00-6:30
    Speaker: 6:30-7:30
    Location: Bascom's Chop House, Clearwater

In an study by IBM of over 5,000 C-Suite executives, they stated that their #1 fear for the future was the "Uberization" of their industry or marketplace.

Three dynamic forces are changing every industry as it has the taxi, real estate, publishing and music industries. No industry is exempt from uberization. Over the last five years, disruption has transformed their industries putting the association and their members at risk for competing.

The question is… Do you know what may be lurking your way that is going to create havoc in your industry.

This energetic and informative session will help provide the keys in researching and determining what future disruption is coming your member’s way. Tom Morrison will share visuals every executive should be looking at with future business planning: the 3 dynamic forces causing disruption; the 3 reasons why disruption is happening; and the 6 places it occurs.

    About our Speaker
Tom Morrison is a 1990 graduate of Florida State University with a B.S. in Finance. He began his career in association management in 1995 as an Executive Vice President hired to assume the role of CEO of the Florida Automotive Industry Association.

In late 2005, Tom was hired by the Metal Treating Institute as Executive Vice President to assume the role of CEO of management in 2008. Tom has been instrumental in helping MTI drive growth in their member value proposition, trade show, annual conferences, online technical training, and use of technology. Through Tom’s leadership, MTI’s net worth has grown over 1,000% since 2006.

Tom is active in the Florida Society of Association Executives, Council of Manufacturing Executives, and American Society of Association Executives. In 2012, due to peer recognition of Tom’s professionalism, business innovation, and passion, he was named the FSAE Association Executive of the Year.
