BAMA and St. Petersburg College invite you to come and see what advanced manufacturing jobs such as technicians, machinists, PLC programmers, etc. are being taught in our local community. Get an up close and hands on experience with the students as they demonstrate the curriculum they are learning and applying in the state of the art Collaborative Center for Emerging Technologies. Also, Nancy Stephens, the Executive Director of the Manufacturers Association of Florida (MAF), will be on hand to provide an overview of how the $15 million grant awarded to a consortium of Florida colleges (headed by St. Petersburg College) will be deployed through the colleges, MAF center, and regional Associations such as BAMA. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity!!!

St. Petersburg College opened the area’s first Collaborative Center for Emerging Technologies in August, 2012. A leader in workforce education, the college developed extensive partnerships with a high level of industry participation. The resulting center on the Clearwater Campus is an open manufacturing factory work environment to train tomorrow’s engineering technology and manufacturing employees. The industry partners worked closely with the college to secure funding and to provide technical expertise, materials and equipment.

While technology has greatly improved the manufacturing process, employees now need cutting-edge skills. Thousands of manufacturing jobs go unfilled each year because of a lack of qualified candidates, according to the Manufacturing Institute. By simulating skills needed in emerging technologies, the center will prepare students for immediate and profitable employment in business and industry while giving them education credentials for advancement.
