Confer with Production Department Manager to assist in specific classification of products from quality assurance position, report on new product or process technology of competitors and to discuss new specifications required by customers. Record, analyze and inform concerned personnel of production quality assurance and Sales Department of status and disposition of customer complaints and claims. Recommend correction actions to adjust errors and customer complaints. Resolve customer disputes within the scope of this position. Implement department policies.     Measure, mark and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining. Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jog borers, grinders, and shapers.
    Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
    Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls or control media as required. Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications. Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
    Fit and assemble parts into complete assembly. Install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
    Develop specifications from general description and draw sketch or part or product to be fabricated.
    Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

    SUMMARY - Lays out, fits, and welds pipe systems, fabricated and forged components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells and building parts by performing the following duties.

    REQUIREMENTS/EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or certification from four-year college, university or technical school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    *Must be a non-smoker to work in chemical production facility.
    *Must have a valid driver's license for forklift operations.
    *Welding Certification preferred.

    NOTE: This position requires applicants to successfully pass a pre-employment, as well as an annual pulmonary function test (PFT). This position may expose the employee to isocyanates which are chemicals known to be respiratory irritants and sensitizers. While TSE provides personal protective equipment (PPE) to its employees working around such chemicals, the most current and best available medical data indicate that individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions including but not limited to asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and the like are at high risk or experiencing serious, and possibly fatal reactions to isocyanates, even at concentrations below the legally permissible exposure level (PEL).     Responsibilities and Duties
    Reporting to and under the direction of the General Manager, this position is responsible for:
    • Producing machined parts and products by leading a team of Machinists that program, set up, inspect and operate a manual Mill, Lathe, Saw or CNC machining center in accordance to specifications and project requirements. Ability to lead shop floor staff in all aspects of CNC Machining. This is a working position and you are expected to run machines every day with your team.

    Job Duties:
    • Plans machining by studying travelers, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, and machining parameters.
    • Trains and coaches new employees as directed for maximum productivity.
    • Must work closely with Quotation Specialist/Production Planner to assist in quoting activities and planning workload for work centers and Machinists.
    • Plans the process flow for maximum efficiency and effective use of machining time.
    • Must have the ability to help create ideas on fixtures to run multiple parts.
    • Maintains specifications by observing machining operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
    • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
    • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
    • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
    • Verifies proper pick-up and performs first piece inspection before proceeding with work to be completed.
    • Operates CNC Machining Center using controls to adjust feeds & speeds in order to achieve maximum operating efficiencies and quality of workmanship.
    • Verifies dimensions of machined parts, components and product using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, telescoping gauges, calipers, fixed gauges, and dial indicators.
    • Performs regular inspection of assigned machine(s) and completes maintenance log and oversees cleanliness of machines and facility.
    • Reports defective or inadequate tooling and machine problems to General Manager.
    • Works in compliance with the provisions of OSHA and Company Health and Safety guidelines.
    • Ability to adhere and fully understand the AS9100 Quality Management System.
    • Any and all other duties as assigned.

    Skillset Required
     Experience in an ISO/AS9100 environment in a leadership role, working within the framework of a Quality Management System is required.

    • Perform assigned tests on materials and parts, product in process, and finished product
    • Inspect visually for obvious defects
    • Compare results with quality standards

    Key Position Information:
    Engineering Technology has programs, both college credit certificates and A.S. degrees, in the areas of Electronics, Quality Management, Drafting and Design, Architecture and Building construction. the department is closely tied to local business and industry. The future direction for the program will be to develop new, up-to-date programs-both for certificates and degrees --that meet emerging industry needs and imbed education and training needed to qualify for state and national industry-wide certifications.

    Provide leadership to faculty and the business community to develop and implement programs that meet both students' and businesses' needs. This includes programs during traditional daytime hours as well as for evenings and weekends. The program Director must be flexible, creative, energetic, and possess a varied background that includes industry experience. The position requires building relationships with local business and will demand the Director spend a significant time off campus working with business executives, HR representatives, our local workforce board, and local high schools to develop articulations and partnerships. The Director's position also requires developing sites for internships and co-op experiences.

    The new director must be dedicated to designing learning environments that enhance student learning and therefore, student success. She/he must be collaborative--willing to work with all college employees and our students to ensure the best possible selection of current certificate and degree programs. The director will be the primary representative for SPC's Engineering Technology program both locally and statewide.

    Engineering Masters or closely related subject and/or industry experience. Experience developing programs in: advanced manufacturing, CADD, electronics, mechatronics, and quality management. Familiarity with state/national certifications.
